WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO PROTECT YOUR DOG FROM WORMS?
Worms can cause serious problems for your pet and you, if left untreated. Worm infections can cause health issues as such as anaemia, malnutrition and intestinal obstructions in your dog. Worms can be a threat to people as well - especially young children or those with a weakened immune system. One worm in particular you don't want a child crossing paths with is Toxocara - if infected, this can cause serious health conditions such as blindness and epilepsy.

Dr. Zoe Costigan Itch Head Vet
BVSc BSc(hons) Cert AVP MRCVSMy dog is pregnant, is Itch Wormer safe to use?
We advise against giving dog worming medication during pregnancy or when your dog is lactating, as it can be passed through to the pups via mum’s milk. We recommend speaking to your vet if you have any concerns about worms in your pregnant or lactating dog.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPE OF WORMS THAT AFFECT DOGS AND HOW?
Itch Wormer kills all types of intestinal worms commonly found in the UK: roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms. The most common worms in dogs are roundworms and tapeworms.
Roundworms are the most common type of parasitic worm found in dogs in the UK. These worms are long and white in appearance and steal nutrients from their host (your pooch - gulp). While the initial infection starts in their GI tract, roundworms can work their way into your dog’s other tissues and organs.
Tapeworms in dogs are long and flat in appearance. These parasites live in the small intestine and latch onto the intestinal wall, absorbing nutrients as your dog is digesting their food. When these worms are excreted, the body of the worm can break into segments that resemble grains of rice.
WHERE DO DOG WORMS COME FROM?
Most gastrointestinal (GI) worms in dogs will squirm their way in when your dog accidentally eats worm eggs or larvae. "How would a dog even eat worm eggs?", we hear you ask! Well, it's pretty gross, but it's usually because they’ve ingested the faeces of another animal which had worms living in its gut.
Many GI worm eggs aren't infective straight away after being passed in poo. It can take a little bit of time - and that's why it's SO IMPORTANT to pick up your dog's poo. It's vital to help reduce the level of infection - and cut those pesky parasites off before they have the chance to infect new pets (or people - yep, we’re not safe from them either). Plus, it's just good dog parent behaviour.
We’re sure this goes without saying, but always wash your hands after handling your dog's poo…
HOW TO TELL IF YOUR DOG HAS WORMS
Symptoms of worm infestation in your dog can include abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, weight loss, dull or lifeless fur, and sometimes even anaemia. In puppies, large numbers of worms can even cause blockages on their insides, which sadly can be fatal.
There are often no early signs of worms in dogs whatsoever. They could be setting up camp in your dog's guts and you wouldn't have a clue until it was possibly too late - scary stuff, right?
Worms can be a threat to people as well as dogs - especially young children or those with a weakened immune system. One worm in particular you don't want a child crossing paths with is Toxocara - if infected, this can cause serious health conditions such as blindness and epilepsy.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DEWORM MY DOG?
The best way to keep yourself, your family and your dog safe is to give your pooch a regular dose of Itch Wormer! Monthly wormer treatment is recommended for dogs who love the outdoors or eat raw food because they're much more likely to get worms. Children under 4 and the immunosuppressed are in danger from a dog with worms, so monthly treatment is also recommended here. All other dogs will be recommended a quarterly wormer treatment programme.
HOW CAN I GET MY DOG TO TAKE THEIR WORMING TABLET?
Our dog wormer comes in tablet form and can be given whole or crushed, with or without food. As dog parents ourselves, we know the tricky realities of getting anywhere near your pooch with that round tablet. To make life easier, we suggest a wrapping of cheese and ham can help the medicine go down.
CAN ITCH WORMER BE TAKEN ALONGSIDE OTHER MEDICATIONS?
Our dog worming tablets contain a powerful blend of Febantel, Praziquantel and Pyrantel Embonate to kill all common intestinal worms and prevent newly hatched larvae from growing and multiplying.
We recommend not to use this product alongside Piperazine, which may be found in other worming products. Please speak to your vet before combining Itch Wormer with any other medications.
IS YOUR PACKAGING RECYCLABLE?
We want to do our very best for the planet we share with our furry sidekicks. One way we can make a difference (and help you make a difference, too) is by keeping sustainability top of mind when it comes to the way we package our products. If there’s a way to make our packaging even greener, you can bet we’re on a mission to sniff it out…Itch Flea and Itch Wormer both come in a recyclable box which can be disposed of in your home recycling bin. The foil and pipette for Itch Flea and the blister for Itch Wormer aren’t currently recyclable (but we’re working on it). Itch Flea Home Spray has a polypropylene lid which can be recycled at home, as can the aerosol can (location dependent). Our treat pouches are 100% recyclable, ink included! They can be recycled at large supermarkets, or check your local council for kerbside recycling. For Itch subscribers, after month 1 we’ve ditched Itch Flea’s excess packaging to save on waste paper. You’ll just receive our flea treatment in its sexy foil jacket. This change alone means we’re saving 13 tons of paper waste a year.
