  • THE IMPORTANCE OF EAR HEALTH

Miraculous things, ears: especially dog and cat ears, both of which are so sensitive they put ours to shame. As a pet parent, it's important to keep on top of dog and cat ear cleaning to help keep them in tip-top shape.

So what should a healthy ear canal look like? Well, you should be looking for the ear canal to have a pale pink colour. It's completely normal for a little bit of wax to be present. Your pet's ears should look quite clean and not be smelly (a slight waxy odour is normal). There shouldn't be any moisture build up.

  • HOW TO TELL IF YOUR PET HAS EAR ISSUES

If your dog’s or cat’s ears are causing them problems, you might notice the following symptoms:

    • Head shaking

    • Rubbing their ear(s)

    • Itchy/painful ears

    • Discharge

    • Odour

    • Redness, swelling and heat in their ear canal

    • Crusting or scabs in their ear or the side of their face

If your pet has an ear infection, you may also notice the following:

    • Loss of balance

    • Partial deafness

    • Vomiting

    • Tilting their head to one side

Ear infections can be very painful so if you notice any of these symptoms in your dog or cat, follow up with your vet right away.

FAQs

  • HOW MUCH EAR LIQUID SHOULD I APPLY?

The vial needs to be inserted into the ear far enough for the liquid to flow into the ear canal and do its magic.

For cats and dogs under 10kg you need to squeeze half of the vial into each ear once a week.

For dogs over 10kg you will need a whole tube per week per ear. Alternatively, if you prefer you can reseal the vial after opening by turning the lid upside down and inserting back into the vial hole. You can then administer this to your pet slowly over a couple of days.

  • DOES ITCH EAR CLEANER WORK ON EAR MITES?

Ear mites tend to feed off wax and skin debris in your pet’s ears. While Itch Ear Cleaner doesn’t treat ear mites directly, you can minimise the risk of your furry sidekick being troubled by ear mites by giving their ears a regular cleaning to remove any excess wax and debris.

  • WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO ADMINISTER EAR CLEANER?

Administering Itch Ear Cleaner is easy! Simply follow these steps:

    1. Lift your pet’s ear flap. If they have flappy ears, that is.

    2. Carefully insert the end of the vial into the upper part of the ear canal (it looks like a black hole!).

    3. Squeeze the required amount of ear cleaner into their ear canal.

    4. Massage the base of your pet’s ear for a few seconds to encourage contact between the cleaning solution and the ear.

    5. Excess ear cleaner trying to escape? Pop some gloves on and use a cotton wool ball to remove any excess liquid.
