So if you get hijacked by fleas, what’s the best flea treatment to treat your home and get rid of those pesky fleas for good? Keep reading to find out!

Fleas in your house

Did you know 95% of adult fleas actually live in your home environment, not on your pet? Fleas like to hide in the crevices and unsuspecting areas of our homes, like nestled in the carpet or in the cracks of furniture. They aren’t picky though, fleas can be anywhere in your home, like on your bedding or even in your hair. Whilst settled in your warm home, fleas will take their opportunity to breed, producing lots of flea eggs and creating a never ending infestation. This is also known as the flea life cycle, which is tough to break but not impossible. So let’s see what flea control you need in place to kill fleas and get rid of them for good!

Best flea treatment for your home

Eradicating fleas from your home takes more than most expect. A rigorous approach to getting rid of fleas means you won’t have to deal with them again, ever! We recommend a flea control routine that targets both adult fleas and their eggs, larvae, and pupae.

Here are our recommendations to how you can say goodbye to fleas forever:

  • Flea Spray

Flea sprays, like the Itch Flea House Spray, are very effective at targeting fleas at all life stages. In one blast, the Itch Flea House Spray will kill all adult fleas lurking in your home for up to 2 months (as well as dust mites) and prevent flea eggs and larvae from developing for 12 months after use. When using flea sprays, we suggest spraying floors, carpets, under furniture, and in cracks/crevices where fleas are likely to be hiding. Always follow the instructions on the product as some sprays are not pet-friendly!

  • Hoover daily

Vacuuming all around your home and your pet’s bedding daily can help remove adult fleas, eggs, and larvae. If you get struck by a flea infestation, we recommend hoovering your home for up to 2 weeks after treating your space and pet - this makes sure every last flea is gone! Remember to dispose of the bag or empty the canister immediately after vacuuming to prevent fleas from escaping and continuing to infest your home.

  • Washing bedding and fabrics regularly

Regularly wash your pet's bedding, blankets, and any other washable fabrics your pet uses in hot water (no less than 60 degrees folks!) to kill fleas at all stages. As fleas can live on your bedding too, it’s best to wash these fabrics also. If you have a tumble dryer, drying your fabrics on a high heat setting can kill any remaining fleas and their eggs that survived the washing machine.

  • Flea foggers or bombs

Flea foggers or bombs can kill fleas in large areas your the home but it may not reach into hidden areas like cracks and upholstery where fleas often hide. Make sure to leave the house during treatment and follow safety instructions. Foggers can’t be used in the same room as pets or humans while active.

  • Flea traps

Flea traps attract fleas using light and heat, trapping them on a sticky surface. While flea traps won’t eliminate fleas on their own, they are useful as a supplementary tool. Try placing these traps near where your pets sleep or in any areas fleas are visibly congregating.

  • Pest control

If an infestation is severe or persists after trying home treatments, a pest control service could be your best hope. They will use stronger pesticides that are safe when used correctly by professionals and may provide long-term results.
